“AITA for having my neighbor’s boyfriend’s car towed after they took over my paid parking spot for a week?”
“I (24F) pay extra for a reserved parking spot at my apartment because parking here is really bad. About two weeks ago, my neighbor ( 26F) knocked on my door and asked if she I could allow her boyfriend who just visited use my spot just for one night she said he will move the car early the next morning, and I agreed since my car is with the mechanic. But the car stayed there for almost a week. I reminded her multiple times to move it, but there was always an excuse. And now I have my car back, and keep searching for street parking even though I’m paying for my own spot. After several warnings, I finally had the car towed. Now my neighbor says I overreacted and embarrassed them.” -

The only reason someone spends extra money on reserved parking is to avoid the inconvenience of finding a spot on the street every day, and she couldn't even access this benefit. The woman was paying for a parking spot she couldn't even use herself! It's understandable that she finds it frustrating.

And it's not like she acted impulsively. There were warnings, conversations, and she even asked them to move the car more than once before calling the tow truck. She gave them lots of opportunities. But if they always had a new excuse for it, she didn't seem to have any other option. After enough reminders, consequences become predictable.

The towing wasn't unreasonable. The boyfriend had occupied her space for nearly a week, while the owner had to waste time looking for parking elsewhere. What was actually unreasonable was the neighbors' expecting her to keep tolerating the situation. And to keep paying for a parking spot she couldn't access. Anyone with common sense would understand the arrangement couldn't last forever. But the thing is, they probably understood, but they didn't care. It was a mindful (and totally disrespectful) decision to leave the car there, and they did it just because it was convenient for them.

“NTA. You gave an inch, they took a mile, and now they're upset that the actions had consequences.” -
It's absurd that they are the ones embarrassed. But you know why they're embarrassed? Not because the car got towed, but because the situation finally had consequences. And they knew they should have acted differently. Hopefully, this situation taught them something.

"You actually parked on the street even once? I'd have had his car towed after my first request to shift it was ignored.Embarrassed? She should be ashamed of taking advantage. What did they plan to do if your car wasn't at the mechanic's in the first place? Seems very odd.
NTA."
